China’s top legislator Zhao Leji has underscored China’s commitment to strengthening relations with Spain and fostering a robust partnership that contributes to the steady, long-term growth of China-Europe ties. During his official goodwill visit to Spain from Saturday to Wednesday, Zhao engaged in a series of high-level meetings aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
As chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), Zhao met with Spanish King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid. He also held talks with Pedro Rollan, president of the Spanish Senate, and Francina Armengol, speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.
In his meeting with King Felipe VI, Zhao conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping. He highlighted the significance of President Xi’s successful state visit to Spain in 2018, which ushered in a new stage of high-level development in China-Spain relations.
Zhao emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations, expressing hope for continued collaboration in various fields. The discussions during his five-day visit focused on enhancing political trust, expanding economic ties, and promoting cultural exchanges.
