Trump Appoints Musk and Ramaswamy to Lead New Department of Government Efficiency

In a bold move to reshape federal governance, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the appointment of entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to spearhead a newly established Department of Government Efficiency.

“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies,” Trump stated.

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has previously advocated for significant reductions in federal spending, proposing cuts of at least $2 trillion—a plan that has sparked debate among economists and policymakers.

Ramaswamy, known for his ventures in the biotechnology industry and his candidacy in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, brings a fresh perspective to the administration’s push for efficiency and innovation within the government.

In addition to these appointments, Trump named Fox News host and military veteran Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, praising him as “tough, smart, and a true believer in America First.” Hegseth’s military background and media presence are expected to play a significant role in shaping defense policies.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has been tapped to serve as Homeland Security secretary. Once considered a potential running mate, Noem will play a crucial role in implementing Trump’s border policies, including his mass deportation plan.

Trump has also designated Tom Homan, the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a staunch opponent of illegal immigration, to serve as the administration’s “border czar,” underscoring a commitment to stringent border control.
