At the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Geneva, Switzerland, videos presented by the Chinese mainland’s National People’s Congress (NPC) received widespread acclaim from over 1,500 representatives across 156 countries.
The NPC showcased video clips commemorating the 40th anniversary of its affiliation with the IPU, highlighting decades of collaboration and mutual growth. Additionally, the videos introduced the upcoming 2024 interregional seminar focusing on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for parliaments of developing countries, emphasizing China’s commitment to global development initiatives.
Tulia Ackson, IPU President and Speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly, along with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, praised China’s significant contributions and its high-level cooperation with the IPU over the past four decades. They acknowledged the NPC’s efforts in fostering international parliamentary dialogue and supporting sustainable development.
The audience, comprising parliamentarians and officials from around the world, responded with warm applause, reflecting the global appreciation of China’s role in promoting international cooperation and sustainable progress.
