China and Iran Vow to Deepen Strategic Partnership at BRICS Summit

At the 16th BRICS Summit held in Russia’s Kazan, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met to reaffirm and strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between their nations. This significant meeting highlighted the growing ties between China and Iran, as both leaders pledged to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including connectivity, infrastructure, and clean energy.

President Xi emphasized China’s commitment to working closely with Iran to promote sound and stable development in their bilateral relations. “China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Iran in various fields, better benefiting our two peoples,” Xi stated. He underscored China’s support for Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and dignity, while advocating for mutual support in upholding international norms such as non-interference in internal affairs.

The Chinese leader also congratulated Iran on its inaugural participation as a full member of the BRICS Summit. “China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Iran within BRICS and other multilateral frameworks,” Xi said. “Together, we can amplify the influence and voice of the Global South, pushing the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction.”

President Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support, recognizing China as Iran’s most important partner. “The comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation in various fields between Iran and China have maintained a positive momentum,” Pezeshkian remarked. He expressed Iran’s hope to work jointly with China to implement their comprehensive cooperation plan, which aims to deepen bilateral collaboration and achieve tangible results that will boost Iran’s national development and contribute to regional peace and stability.

Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s readiness to continue firm support for China on issues concerning their respective core interests, emphasizing a shared opposition to hegemony and bullying. He looked forward to close collaboration with China within BRICS and other multilateral platforms.

Amid discussions, the leaders also addressed the current situation in the Middle East. President Xi expressed deep concern over regional tensions, particularly the conflict in Gaza. He emphasized that an early ceasefire and an end to the conflict are crucial for easing tensions. Xi called on the international community to urge all relevant parties to implement UN Security Council resolutions to prevent further instability in the region.

The meeting between President Xi and President Pezeshkian signifies a strengthening alliance that could have far-reaching implications for the political and economic landscape of Asia and the broader global community. As China and Iran deepen their partnership, observers anticipate potential developments in trade, energy cooperation, and regional security initiatives that could influence market trends and geopolitical dynamics.
