Xi Jinping Urges Anhui to Pioneer Chinese Modernization

During a recent inspection tour in east China’s Anhui Province, President Xi Jinping emphasized the province’s pivotal role in advancing Chinese modernization. He called on Anhui to further implement the guiding principles of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress and to embrace the new development philosophy comprehensively.

Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, encouraged Anhui to leverage national development strategies to become a hub of scientific and technological innovation, a center for emerging industries, and a green transformation zone for economic and social development. He urged the province to write its own chapter of Chinese modernization by promoting high-quality development and building a beautiful Anhui in all respects.

From October 17 to 18, Xi visited the cities of Anqing and Hefei, accompanied by Liang Yanshun, secretary of the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee, and Anhui Governor Wang Qingxian. His tour included visits to historical sites and high-tech parks, where he engaged with local residents, researchers, and business leaders.

In Tongcheng City, Xi explored Liuchi Alley, a site renowned for its history of harmonious neighbor relations. He emphasized the importance of protecting historical and cultural heritage and promoting fine traditional Chinese culture. Engaging warmly with residents and tourists, Xi highlighted the ancestral wisdom of dispute resolution embodied by Liuchi Alley and its significance in fostering a harmonious social environment.

At the Hefei Binhu Science City, Xi reviewed major technological innovations and discussed advancements with researchers and corporate executives. He observed high-tech products in fields such as intelligent connected vehicles, new-generation information technology, new energy, artificial intelligence, and life sciences. Xi stressed that science and technology should spearhead Chinese modernization and called for accelerated efforts to achieve greater self-reliance and strength in these areas.

During a work report session with provincial leaders, Xi commended Anhui’s achievements and set forth clear requirements for future work. He emphasized accelerating technological innovation, industrial transformation, and upgrading. Xi urged the promotion of high-level scientific and technological platforms, original innovation capabilities, and the development of advanced manufacturing clusters with international competitiveness.

Xi also called for coordinated efforts in ecological conservation, pollution control, and green transformation. He stressed the importance of deepening reforms, expanding high-level opening up, and creating a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment.

Highlighting the need for integrated urban-rural development, Xi emphasized modernizing agriculture, promoting rural revitalization, and improving living standards in rural areas. He called for efforts to transform outmoded habits and customs, promote core socialist values, and enhance cultural and ethical progress.

Xi urged unwavering commitment to the Party’s leadership and the strengthening of Party building. He highlighted the importance of regular discipline education, addressing issues of malfeasance and inaction among officials, and optimizing systems to ease burdens on grassroots entities.

Concluding his tour, Xi stressed the necessity of achieving the economic and social development objectives for the year by conscientiously implementing the policies and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee.
