China has called on Myanmar to conduct a thorough investigation following an explosion near its Consulate-General in Mandalay. The incident, which occurred on October 18, caused partial damage to an office building facing the consulate but resulted in no casualties.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed deep concern over the attack during a press briefing on Monday. “The Chinese side is deeply shocked by the attack and strongly condemns such an act,” Lin stated.
China has lodged serious representations with Myanmar, urging authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators in accordance with the law. The Chinese government also called for enhanced security measures to protect its embassy, consulate-general, projects, and personnel in Myanmar.
In response, Myanmar officials have assured China of their commitment to upholding international obligations. They have initiated a series of measures to ensure the security of Chinese personnel and institutions in Myanmar.
