China and Indonesia Pledge to Deepen Ties and Boost High-Speed Rail Cooperation

In a significant development for regional cooperation, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on Saturday. The meeting underscored the mutual commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral ties and enhance collaboration on key infrastructure projects.

At the invitation of the Indonesian government, Han Zheng, acting as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is set to attend the inauguration of President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Sunday. Han’s visit from Saturday to Monday marks a pivotal moment in China-Indonesia relations, highlighting a decade of high-level development between the two countries.

“The past 10 years have witnessed the high-level development of China-Indonesia relations,” Han noted. “Both heads of state have jointly led the relationship into a new era of building a community with a shared future.”

Emphasizing China’s willingness to collaborate further, Han expressed the desire to carry forward the tradition of friendship and cooperation. He highlighted the importance of deepening all-around strategic coordination and promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. “We aim to ensure the smooth operation of major projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway,” Han said, “continuing to write a new chapter of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual benefit.”

President Joko Widodo acknowledged the fruitful results of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China. “In recent years, our partnership has developed with sound momentum,” he stated. He emphasized that the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is not only a landmark cooperation project but also a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

“Indonesia is willing to work with China to ensure the railway’s efficient operation,” Joko affirmed. “Under the leadership of the new Indonesian government, our bilateral ties will continue to reach new levels.”

The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative, represents a significant achievement in China-Indonesia cooperation. As both countries look forward to enhanced collaboration, the railway stands as a testament to their shared commitment to regional development and connectivity.

Han expressed hope that President Joko would continue to support the development of bilateral relations and contribute to furthering the traditional friendship between the two countries.
