Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the establishment of BRICS has never been aimed at any other countries, during a meeting with representatives of mainstream media outlets from BRICS nations, including those from China Media Group (CMG), in Moscow on Friday.
The meeting, held just days before the 2024 BRICS Summit scheduled from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, Russia, highlighted the growing influence of the BRICS cooperation mechanism. Putin noted that the group has expanded to ten member countries, with thirty more nations expressing interest in collaborating with BRICS or seeking various forms of participation.
“The formation of BRICS is based on shared values, development perspectives, and the principle of mutual benefit,” Putin stated, underscoring that it has never targeted other parties.
Addressing the current global dynamics, Putin remarked on attempts by the United States to curb the development of China, saying such efforts are akin to “keeping the sun from rising.”
The Russian leader also fielded questions from journalists regarding the Ukraine crisis, bilateral and multilateral relations, and the global financial system, offering insights into Russia’s positions on these critical issues.
