Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that he will not attend the upcoming G20 summit in Brazil scheduled for November. Despite his absence, Putin emphasized his “very good friendship” with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Speaking at a meeting with the heads of leading media outlets from BRICS countries, Putin expressed his regrets but did not provide specific reasons for his decision. The meeting took place just days ahead of the BRICS summit in Kazan.
“I have a very good friendship with President Lula,” Putin remarked, highlighting the strong ties between Russia and Brazil within the BRICS framework.
Brazil, which will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, has announced that the summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19. President Lula had previously expressed hopes that Putin would attend the summit, aiming to foster dialogue among global leaders.
The G20 summit is expected to address critical issues affecting the global economy, and Putin’s absence may have implications for discussions on international cooperation and economic policies.
