China has called on India to handle issues related to the Taiwan region prudently and properly, urging New Delhi to refrain from any form of official interactions with the region. The statement came after reports that the Taiwan region has announced the official operation of a new office in Mumbai, India.
Speaking at a daily press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that there is only one China in the world, and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Mao stated, “China firmly opposes any form of official contact and interactions between the Taiwan region and countries having diplomatic relations with China, including the mutual establishment of representative agencies. China has lodged stern representations with the Indian side.”
Mao noted that the one-China principle is a political commitment made by India and serves as the political foundation for bilateral relations between the two countries. “China urges India to strictly adhere to its commitment, handle Taiwan-related issues in a prudent and proper way, and refrain from any form of official interactions with the region,” she added.
The development underscores the sensitivities surrounding the Taiwan region’s international engagements and highlights China’s stance on maintaining its territorial integrity. Observers are watching closely how India will respond to China’s concerns amid the evolving geopolitical landscape in the region.
