Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Russian PM Mishustin Pledge Closer Ties at SCO Summit

At the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Islamabad, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and communication.

During their meeting on Wednesday, Premier Li emphasized the importance of maintaining close collaboration between China and Russia. He highlighted that both countries continue to uphold mutual support on issues concerning each other’s core interests. “Our practical cooperation has advanced steadily,” Li remarked, praising the “fruitful strategic cooperation and flourishing people-to-people and sub-national exchanges” between the two nations.

Li expressed China’s readiness to work with Russia to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. He called for an expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation, aiming to make significant contributions to the development and revitalization of both countries and to promote global prosperity and stability.

The Chinese premier outlined plans to deepen cooperation in traditional areas such as economy, trade, and energy. Additionally, he stressed the importance of advancing collaboration in emerging sectors, including the digital economy, to enhance bilateral ties in industrial and supply chains.

Li also urged both countries to encourage SCO member states to uphold the “Shanghai Spirit,” strengthen mutual strategic trust, and pursue mutual benefit and win-win results. “Together, we can create a more dynamic SCO with pragmatic cooperation and universally beneficial outcomes,” he stated.

Prime Minister Mishustin echoed Li’s sentiments, expressing Russia’s willingness to enhance alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union. He emphasized deepening practical cooperation in fields such as energy, transportation, and agriculture. Mishustin also highlighted the importance of maintaining close collaboration within international frameworks, including the United Nations, the SCO, and BRICS.

The meeting between the two leaders signifies a continued commitment to fostering strong bilateral relations and collaborative efforts within the broader context of regional and global development.
