Chinese Defense Ministry Criticizes U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan Region

The Chinese Ministry of National Defense has voiced strong criticism against ongoing U.S. arms sales to the Taiwan region, labeling the transactions as wasteful and detrimental to the residents of the region.

On Tuesday, Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry, condemned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities of the Taiwan region for pursuing weapons purchases from the United States. “They are only wasting the hard-earned money of people in the region,” Wu stated, emphasizing that the funds could be better utilized for the benefit of the residents.

Wu’s remarks came in response to recent media reports alleging fraud in U.S. arms sales to the Taiwan region. Describing these reports as merely the “tip of the iceberg,” he asserted that the U.S. has been supplying the Taiwan region with overpriced and outdated military equipment. “The U.S. arms sales over the years had a ‘sky-high price’ but ‘obsolete functions,'” he noted.

“It is evident that the DPP authorities bought pieces of junk that only benefit corrupted officials and arms dealers,” Wu added, criticizing the motivations behind the purchases and suggesting corrupt practices may be at play.

The spokesperson also issued a stern warning to the DPP authorities regarding aspirations for “Taiwan independence.” He stressed that such efforts are futile and cautioned against relying on external forces. “Those who try to rely on U.S. support for independence will only court their own destruction,” Wu declared, underscoring the Chinese mainland’s firm stance on the issue.

The comments from the Ministry highlight escalating tensions surrounding U.S. military involvement in the Taiwan region and reflect ongoing concerns over regional stability and the allocation of resources by the DPP authorities.
