Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is all set to hold its sixth-term chief executive election this Sunday morning at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.
On Saturday, Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng visited the polling station to inspect the final preparations. During his visit, he received a detailed briefing from Song Man Lei, president of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for the Chief Executive Election.
Ho Iat Seng emphasized the significance of this election, noting that amendments to the Chief Executive Election Law last year were made to further implement the principle of \"patriots administering Macao\". He stressed that the upcoming election would reflect the results of these legislative changes and urged the EAC to ensure all arrangements are meticulously planned.
Song Man Lei assured that the commission has been actively preparing and that all arrangements are in place for a smooth and transparent election process. The polling station will feature 32 voting booths and 8 ballot boxes, ready to accommodate all 400 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee as they cast their votes. Vote counting will commence immediately after polling concludes, with results announced promptly.
Polling is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Sam Hou Fai, who secured 386 nominations from the Chief Executive Election Committee, is the sole candidate in this election.
According to the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive is elected by a broadly representative Chief Executive Election Committee and is then appointed by the Central People's Government. The chief executive serves a five-year term.
