In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo on Saturday in Beijing. The meeting marks a renewed commitment between China and Colombia to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
“Over the past 44 years since our countries established diplomatic relations, we have maintained a sound momentum in developing our ties,” Vice President Han emphasized. He called for both nations to fully implement the important consensus reached by their respective heads of state, deepen political mutual trust, and firmly support each other on the international stage.
Han welcomed Colombia’s efforts to join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), highlighting the potential for expanded cooperation. “China is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with Colombia,” he noted, expressing a desire to work together to practice genuine multilateralism and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Foreign Minister Murillo affirmed Colombia’s commitment to the one-China principle and expressed eagerness to actively participate in the BRI. “We agree with the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity,” Murillo stated. “Colombia is willing to join hands with the Global South to safeguard international fairness and justice.”
The meeting signals a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing economic ties, investing in shared development projects, and promoting mutual understanding between the two nations. With Colombia’s participation in initiatives like the BRI, both countries anticipate a new chapter of cooperation that could have significant implications for regional and global affairs.
