Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Luong Cuong, a senior Vietnamese official, in Beijing on Friday to reinforce the commitment between China and Vietnam to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.
Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of communist party leadership and the socialist system as foundational to both countries’ development. He highlighted that these shared principles serve as the most solid political foundation for enhancing bilateral ties.
“China regards Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy,” Xi stated. “We are prepared to work with Vietnam to deepen high-level mutually beneficial cooperation, safeguard international fairness and justice, and promote the cause of human progress.”
Xi called for both nations to view China-Vietnam relations from a strategic perspective, especially as global changes accelerate. He urged adherence to the correct political direction to ensure the sustained and properly oriented development of bilateral ties.
He proposed strengthening exchanges of thoughts and ideas, utilizing institutionalized platforms such as theoretical discussions and cadre training, and enhancing communication on party and state governance. Xi also encouraged tapping further into cooperation potential and promoting synergy in development strategies and interconnectivity.
Highlighting the upcoming 75th anniversary of bilateral relations and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges next year, Xi called for initiatives to increase public recognition of the traditional friendship between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of guiding public opinion to consolidate support for the long-term development of bilateral relations.
Xi noted that China\’s efforts to deepen reforms and promote high-level opening-up would not only advance its own development but also bring new impetus and opportunities to Vietnam and other countries worldwide. “China is ready to enhance cooperation with Vietnam to be good companions and partners on the path of reform and modernization,” he said.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee headed by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam would successfully achieve the goals set by the 13th National Congress of the CPV.
Luong Cuong, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPV Central Committee and permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat, acknowledged the significance of the relationship between the two socialist neighbors. “Developing relations with China has always been an objective need, strategic choice, and a top priority of Vietnam\’s overall diplomacy,” he stated.
He affirmed Vietnam\’s willingness to work closely with China to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries\’ top leaders, strengthen relations between the two parties and nations, and expand cooperation in various fields. Luong Cuong emphasized the importance of managing and resolving differences to promote the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and build a community with a shared future.
