At the 27th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit in Vientiane on Thursday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate with ASEAN, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), and other Asian nations to foster an Asia characterized by peace, prosperity, openness, and connectivity.
Li highlighted the importance of upholding the Asian consciousness and carrying forward Oriental wisdom to navigate factors of instability and uncertainty that the region faces. He noted that Asian countries share common interests, opportunities, values, and a collective home.
“China will continue to work with all parties to fully utilize the APT cooperation mechanism, support ASEAN’s central role in the regional architecture, and promote long-term, stable development,” Li said, advocating for more certainty and positive energy in both Asia and the global community.
He urged relevant parties to foster a favorable regional environment based on mutual respect, solidarity, and mutual assistance, aiming to strengthen public support for APT cooperation.
The premier called for sustained efforts to enhance regional development resilience, improve industrial stability and competitiveness, and implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement effectively. “China looks forward to accelerating the restart of China-Japan-ROK Free Trade Area negotiations,” he added.
Li also emphasized the need to invigorate regional innovation by promoting cooperation programs in digital technology, artificial intelligence, green development, and supply chain management. He stressed the importance of fostering new growth drivers, optimizing economic structures, and boosting sustained development momentum in the region.
