President Xi Jinping Extends Warm Greetings to Seniors Ahead of China’s Seniors’ Day

On the eve of China's Seniors' Day, President Xi Jinping extended heartfelt greetings to the nation's elderly population, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to society and the importance of elder care.

In a letter addressed to representatives participating in the national voluntary initiative \"Silver Age Action,\" President Xi acknowledged the active role seniors have played in recent years. He praised their dedication to community service, highlighting how they have utilized their knowledge, skills, and experience to benefit the public.

\"This embodies the spirit of the Chinese elderly in the new era,\" Xi remarked, underscoring the significance of their continued pursuits and engagement in societal development.

President Xi urged Party committees and governments at all levels to prioritize work related to the elderly. He called for efforts to address the pressing concerns of seniors, improve relevant policies and measures, and foster a supportive social environment that ensures their well-being and rights are protected.

With China's population aged 60 and above approaching 300 million by the end of 2023—and projections suggesting it will exceed 400 million by 2035—the President emphasized the need to enable seniors to contribute effectively to society.

The \"Silver Age Action\" initiative, launched in 2003, aims to leverage the expertise of senior professionals across various fields to assist in the development of underdeveloped areas. Over the years, it has become a platform for the elderly to continue their professional pursuits while serving the community.

As China prepares to celebrate Seniors' Day on Friday, President Xi's message serves as a reminder of the respect and appreciation owed to the older generation, and the collective responsibility to support them in enjoying a fulfilling and dignified life.
