Premier Li Qiang Affirms China’s Commitment to ASEAN Community Building

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has declared China’s unwavering support for the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community and affirmed ASEAN’s central role in regional cooperation and international affairs. Premier Li made these remarks upon his arrival in Vientiane on Wednesday, highlighting China’s commitment to collaborative growth in the region.

“China firmly supports the building of the ASEAN Community,” Premier Li stated in a written statement released at Wattay International Airport. “We are ready to engage in deep exchanges with all parties on major regional cooperative issues and contribute to making the region an important engine for global development.”

Strengthening Regional Ties

Premier Li is in Laos to attend a series of high-level meetings, including the 27th China-ASEAN Summit, the 27th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, and the 19th East Asia Summit, from October 9 to 12. He is also scheduled to pay an official visit to Laos at the invitation of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, underscoring the importance of China-Laos relations.

In his statement, Premier Li praised Laos’s active role as the rotating chair of ASEAN this year. “Laos has focused on practical cooperation, building consensus among all parties, and pushing for new progress and achievements in ASEAN Community building and East Asia cooperation,” he noted.

Deepening China-Laos Cooperation

Highlighting the strengthened ties between China and Laos, Premier Li emphasized the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaders in deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation. “Our bilateral relations have entered a new era of building a community with a shared future,” he said.

As China advances its Second Centenary Goal of becoming a great modern socialist country, and as Laos embarks on reforms to further advance its socialist cause, Premier Li expressed readiness to align development strategies. “China is prepared to work with Laos to strengthen solidarity and coordination, pushing for substantial progress in building a China-Laos community with a shared future, benefiting our peoples,” he affirmed.

Upcoming Engagements

During his stay, Premier Li will engage with leaders from ASEAN member countries and participate in discussions aimed at enhancing regional cooperation. The meetings are expected to address key issues such as economic development, regional security, and collaborative strategies to foster growth amid global challenges.
