China has strongly urged the United States to revoke its recent decision to provide military assistance worth approximately $567 million to the Taiwan region. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made a stern statement on Wednesday condemning the U.S. move, emphasizing that it severely undermines China-U.S. relations and threatens peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.
In response to media inquiries, Wu expressed that the U.S. arms sale to the Taiwan region is a serious violation of the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, particularly the August 17 communique. He stated that this action infringes upon China's sovereignty and security interests and sends an erroneous signal to the separatist forces seeking \"Taiwan independence.\"
\"The United States must immediately revoke this decision, cease arms sales to Taiwan, and stop military contacts with the Taiwan region,\" Wu asserted. He urged the U.S. to halt its \"two-faced\" approach towards China and abandon any attempts to use Taiwan to contain China.
Wu warned that any tactics aimed at promoting \"Taiwan independence\" are futile and would only lead to self-inflicted harm. \"It must be noted that 'Taiwan independence' means war,\" he cautioned, underscoring China's firm stance on national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The spokesperson reiterated China's commitment to safeguarding national unity and urged the U.S. to adhere strictly to the one-China principle to avoid further escalation of tensions.
