Exit Polls Indicate Landslide Victory for Tunisian President Kais Saied

Exit polls from Sunday’s presidential election in Tunisia suggest a sweeping victory for incumbent President Kais Saied, signaling strong public support for his leadership amidst a transformative period for the North African nation.

Tunisian State TV reported that according to preliminary estimates by Sigma Conseil, a prominent Tunisian survey company, President Saied secured a commanding 89.2 percent of the vote. Trailing behind were Ayachi Zammel with 6.9 percent and Zouhair Maghzaoui with 3.9 percent, indicating a significant margin between the incumbent and his challengers.

In a press briefing following the close of polls, Farouk Bouaskar, president of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), announced that the preliminary voter turnout reached 27.7 percent. While the turnout figure reflects the portion of the electorate that participated, the overwhelming percentage garnered by Saied underscores a robust mandate from those who voted.

Kais Saied’s anticipated re-election comes at a crucial time as Tunisia navigates economic challenges and seeks to solidify democratic institutions following years of political shifts since the Arab Spring. His presidency has been marked by promises of political reform and anti-corruption measures, resonating with many Tunisians yearning for stability and progress.

The official results are expected to be confirmed by ISIE in the coming days. Until then, the exit poll figures provide a strong indication of the election’s outcome, setting the stage for President Saied to continue his agenda for Tunisia’s future.
