Macao SAR Comes Alive with Celebrations and New Bridge Opening on National Day
The streets of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) were filled with festive spirit on Tuesday as residents marked the National Day with a series of vibrant events. From a solemn flag-raising ceremony at the break of dawn to the dazzling fireworks that lit up the night sky, the day was a showcase of unity and progress.
At the Golden Lotus Square, the flag-raising ceremony commenced early in the morning, symbolizing the region’s pride and patriotism. The ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, and residents, all gathered to honor the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive of Macao SAR, addressed attendees at a special reception held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. In his speech, Ho expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the central authorities, stating that the nation has always regarded Macao as a “precious gem.” He emphasized that this support has been integral to maintaining the region’s prosperity, stability, and development opportunities.
“Over the past five years, we have steadfastly implemented the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle,” Ho remarked. “We have safeguarded the overall jurisdiction of the central authorities and the country’s sovereignty, security, and development interests.”
A highlight of the day’s celebrations was the official opening of Macao’s fourth sea-crossing bridge. The Macao Bridge, now connecting the Macao Peninsula with Taipa, was inaugurated and opened to traffic on Tuesday. This significant infrastructure project is expected to enhance transportation efficiency and foster greater connectivity within the region.
The festivities culminated with a spectacular fireworks display, illuminating the night sky and reflecting over the waters surrounding Macao. Residents and visitors alike gathered along the waterfront to witness the burst of colors and celebrate the region’s achievements and aspirations.
The National Day events in Macao SAR showcased not only the region’s cultural richness but also its ongoing commitment to growth and unity under the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ framework. As the celebrations concluded, the sense of pride and optimism was palpable among the people of Macao, looking forward to a future of continued prosperity and development.
