On Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed four key suggestions to address the Afghan issue during the third informal meeting with his counterparts from Russia, Pakistan, and Iran. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that over the past three years, Afghanistan has undergone a stable transition. However, he emphasized that there remains a long journey ahead for the country’s reconstruction and development, with numerous challenges hindering long-term stability.
Highlighting the importance of collaborative security efforts, Wang called for strengthened intelligence exchange and sharing among the regional partners. He advocated for expanded law enforcement and security cooperation to eradicate violent terrorist groups within Afghanistan.
Furthermore, Wang urged the implementation of comprehensive measures to jointly promote the Tunxi Initiative, which supports Afghanistan’s reconstruction efforts. The Tunxi Initiative represents a collective commitment to assist Afghanistan in achieving sustainable development and stability.
Emphasizing the principle of justice, Wang stressed that Afghanistan should serve as a platform for cooperation among all parties rather than becoming a venue for geopolitical competition. He called on the international community to provide positive guidance by focusing on the most urgent challenges facing Afghanistan.
Finally, Wang Yi encouraged all involved nations to unite in their efforts to support Afghanistan, advocating for a collaborative approach that prioritizes the well-being of the Afghan people and the region’s long-term peace and prosperity.
