China and El Salvador Poised to Enhance Bilateral Ties, Accelerate Free Trade Talks

New York City, NY – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with El Salvador in upgrading their bilateral relations and supporting the Central American nation’s pursuit of national development.

During discussions with Salvadoran Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco on Wednesday, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to strengthening ties. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the importance of mutual efforts to enhance cooperation.

“China is willing to make joint efforts with El Salvador to upgrade bilateral ties and help the country achieve better national development,” Wang Yi stated. He affirmed that China will continue to support El Salvador in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions.

Highlighting economic collaboration, Wang Yi revealed that Beijing is prepared to expedite negotiations on a free trade agreement. “We are ready to work with El Salvador to speed up negotiations so that more Salvadoran products can enter the Chinese market,” he said, signaling a significant opportunity for Salvadoran industries.

Foreign Minister Hill Tinoco expressed her country’s strong commitment to the partnership. “El Salvador firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is committed to expanding cooperation with China and deepening our bilateral friendship,” she remarked. Hill added that El Salvador looks forward to reaching a free trade agreement with China at an early date to enhance economic and trade cooperation.

The meeting underscores a mutual interest in fostering closer ties between the two nations, with potential benefits spanning economic growth, trade expansion, and enhanced diplomatic relations. The acceleration of free trade agreement negotiations could open new markets for Salvadoran products and provide opportunities for investment and collaboration.
