China and Bangladesh Pledge to Strengthen Traditional Friendship and Cooperation

On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Muhammad Yunus, leader of the interim government of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding friendship between China and Bangladesh and to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. “China is ready to work with Bangladesh to carry forward our traditional friendship,” Wang stated. He called for consolidating political mutual trust and deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Highlighting areas of potential collaboration, Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to expand cooperation in agriculture, poverty alleviation, and new energy, in line with Bangladesh’s development needs. “We are prepared to strengthen exchanges of experience in governance and reform, and to support Bangladesh in boosting its economic and social development,” he added.

Muhammad Yunus welcomed China’s willingness to enhance cooperation, expressing his country’s eagerness to learn from China’s experience. “Bangladesh is ready to expand our friendly cooperation and draw on China’s successful practices in development,” Yunus said.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to work closely in promoting mutual interests and contributing to regional development. The discussions are expected to pave the way for future collaborations that will benefit the peoples of both nations.
