Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Calls for Major Nations to Propel Global Unity at UN Summit

At the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York on Monday, Wang Yi, Special Representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Foreign Minister, called on major countries to serve as propellers of global solidarity and anchors of international peace.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the significance of the summit in uniting efforts for world peace and development amidst unprecedented global changes.

“Humanity has only one planet Earth, and we belong to the same global community. It is vital that we care for our shared home and work together to enhance global governance,” he stated.

To address common challenges and build a better world, Wang outlined four key propositions from China:

Promoting peace and stability: In a turbulent world where no country remains unaffected, Wang stressed the necessity of solidarity and cooperation among nations. He urged major powers to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than engaging in geopolitical tensions or bloc confrontations.

Fostering development and prosperity: Wang called for all countries to share development opportunities and pursue win-win cooperation to ensure common prosperity. He opposed the notion of a “small yard with high fences,” warning that such approaches would only serve to divide the world.

Upholding fairness and justice: Highlighting that all countries, regardless of size and strength, are equal members of the international community, Wang firmly opposed the law of the jungle and acts of hegemonism such as unilateral sanctions. He urged the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and the promotion of greater democracy in international relations.

Embracing innovation and transformation: As technological advancements and industrial transformations accelerate, Wang proposed that nations must adapt, explore new practices, and strive for a more equitable global governance system. He specifically mentioned AI governance, stating that China supports the UN in serving as the main channel in AI governance and will propose the AI Capacity-Building Action Plan for Good and for All. He encouraged young people to contribute to the advancement of humanity.

Concluding his speech, Wang noted that China is pursuing national rejuvenation through modernization, which will create new opportunities for world peace and development.

“China will work hand in hand with countries around the world to advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and create a more peaceful and better tomorrow,” Wang said.
