Three Years On: GDI Builds Global Consensus at Beijing Summit

In early September, the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in Beijing. Attended by representatives from more than 50 African countries, the summit highlighted a shared pursuit: the realization of modernization across China and Africa.

The Global Development Initiative (GDI), proposed by China at the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2021, took center stage during the summit. The GDI aims to steer global development toward a new stage of balanced, coordinated, and inclusive growth, and its prominence at the summit underscored a strong collective voice for promoting common development.

Over the past three years, the GDI has become a vital public good offered by China to the international community, embodying the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity. It has focused international attention on development issues, fostered high-quality drivers for future growth, and provided solutions for countries in the Global South to bridge development gaps and build a better world.

The Beijing summit showcased the growing consensus and cooperation fostered by the GDI. As nations seek pathways to modernization and shared prosperity, initiatives like the GDI play a crucial role in uniting countries toward common goals and addressing global challenges through collaboration and mutual support.
