Malaysia’s King Sultan Ibrahim to Strengthen Ties with China on State Visit

Malaysia’s King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar is set to embark on a state visit to China from September 19 to 22 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian highlighted during a press briefing that China and Malaysia share a longstanding friendship and have been good neighbors and partners in mutual assistance and win-win cooperation.

Lin noted that in March last year, President Xi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached an important consensus on building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, providing direction for the development of bilateral relations in the new era.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, celebrated as the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship. Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s successful official visit to Malaysia in June further injected new impetus into the development of bilateral ties, Lin added.

King Sultan Ibrahim’s visit to China represents his first official visit to a non-ASEAN country since assuming office as the head of state. President Xi is scheduled to hold a welcome ceremony and banquet in his honor. The two heads of state will hold talks, and Premier Li will also meet with King Sultan Ibrahim.

Lin stated that China is willing to work with Malaysia to seize this opportunity to continue the traditional friendship, deepen strategic alignment, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and further enrich the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. The aim is to achieve new milestones in building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

The upcoming visit is expected to further strengthen the close ties between China and Malaysia, enhancing cooperation across various sectors and contributing to regional stability and prosperity.
