China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, has called for fresh innovation and progress in the work of the country’s people’s congresses. As a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), Zhao Leji highlighted the unique characteristics and strengths of China’s fundamental political system. He urged officials to fully leverage these advantages to break new ground in legislative work.
Zhao stressed the need for high-quality development in the work of people’s congresses across all levels. He called for efforts to ensure that citizens’ rights to information, participation, expression, and oversight are realized in every aspect of legislative activities.
