China has urged developed nations and international financial institutions to take concrete steps to ease the debt burden on African countries, emphasizing the need for fair and practical cooperation. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted the importance of equitable partnerships with Africa.
“As Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed, to be Africa’s cooperation partner, one must always do what is fair and just for Africa, treat Africa as an equal, and deliver tangibly for Africa,” Mao Ning stated during a press briefing. “We call on the international community, especially the developed countries and international financial institutions, to step up to their responsibilities and help African countries ease debt burdens and achieve sustainable development.”
Mao Ning’s remarks underscore China’s commitment to supporting Africa’s development and reflect Beijing’s broader strategy to strengthen ties with the continent. China’s appeal comes amidst growing concerns about the economic challenges facing many African nations, exacerbated by global economic fluctuations and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The spokesperson emphasized that international cooperation with Africa should prioritize practical outcomes and mutual respect. China’s approach involves significant investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and education across various African countries, aiming to foster sustainable growth and development.
China’s call for action places pressure on developed countries and financial institutions to reassess their policies towards debt relief and financial support for Africa. The move is seen as part of a larger effort to promote global economic equity and address disparities in international development assistance.
