Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed on Thursday China’s commitment to working with Namibia to promote mutual development and prosperity, and to build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

During a meeting in Beijing with Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, who is attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Xi praised the strong ties between the two nations. He emphasized Namibia’s significant contributions to the success of the summit, highlighting the shared commitment of China and Africa to advancing modernization together.

Xi noted that both the Communist Party of China and Namibia’s South West Africa People’s Organization are long-standing parties with extensive governance experience. He expressed China’s willingness to deepen friendly cooperation between the two countries and their parties, share governance and administrative expertise, seize development opportunities, and jointly advance their modernization efforts.

Emphasizing the importance of aligning development strategies, Xi called for exploring new areas of collaboration in agriculture, clean energy, infrastructure, energy and minerals, and technology. He encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Namibia and expressed hope that Namibia would continue to facilitate such investments. Additionally, Xi underscored China’s support for Namibia’s role as a co-facilitator for the United Nations’ Summit of the Future, aiming to enhance multilateral strategic cooperation, strengthen the Global South, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.

President Mbumba expressed his honor at being invited to China for the FOCAC summit. He remarked that the two outcome documents adopted at the summit will strengthen the brotherly relationship between Africa and China, promote cooperation across various fields, and guide the two nations towards a prosperous future.

He affirmed Namibia’s commitment to fully implementing the summit’s outcomes, enhancing communication with China, and boosting cooperation in agriculture, minerals, infrastructure, clean energy, and aerospace. Mbumba reiterated Namibia’s adherence to the one-China principle, support for China’s sovereignty, endorsement of China’s path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and backing of global initiatives put forward by President Xi aimed at fostering global peace and modernization.

During the summit, the two countries signed several bilateral agreements, including in fields related to the export of sheep and goat meat to China and other areas of development cooperation.
