President Xi Jinping Strengthens Ties with Guinea-Bissau’s President Embalo at FOCAC Summit

Beijing, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embalo on Thursday during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The meeting marked a significant step in enhancing the strategic partnership between China and Guinea-Bissau.

President Xi expressed China’s willingness to deepen the traditional friendship with Guinea-Bissau, emphasizing the importance of promoting strategic cooperation and safeguarding each country’s sovereignty, security, and development interests. He highlighted the pragmatic and efficient cooperation between the two nations, noting the progress of projects such as cashew nut exports to China and the deployment of a new team of Chinese agricultural experts to Guinea-Bissau.

“China hopes that both sides will actively implement the outcomes of the FOCAC summit, injecting new momentum into the development of China-Guinea-Bissau and China-Africa relations,” President Xi stated. He underscored the shared goal of advancing modernization efforts in both Africa and China.

President Embalo expressed his gratitude for China’s support, stating that for Africa, China represents the future and is regarded as a brotherly nation. “Guinea-Bissau is willing to be a reliable friend and partner of China,” he said. “We hope to use the FOCAC summit as an opportunity to continuously deepen the friendship and practical cooperation between our two countries.”

The meeting underscores the growing importance of China-Africa relations, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to collaborative development and mutual prosperity. The implementation of FOCAC initiatives is expected to bring about significant advancements in economic and social progress for both nations.
