China and Equatorial Guinea Strengthen Ties at FOCAC 2024 Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday in Beijing, ahead of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

President Xi emphasized the deep-rooted friendship and high-level political mutual trust between China and Equatorial Guinea. He highlighted the comprehensive and pragmatic cooperation and profound people-to-people connections that have characterized the bilateral relations.

“In recent years, our two countries have made significant progress across various fields and have collaborated closely on international affairs,” Xi noted.

Xi expressed China\u2019s commitment to firmly support Equatorial Guinea in its pursuit of national development. He outlined plans to expand practical cooperation, deepen defense and security ties, and assist in diversifying Equatorial Guinea\u2019s economy. “We aim to open new prospects for our comprehensive strategic partnership,” the Chinese president added.

He also conveyed China\u2019s readiness to work closely with Equatorial Guinea to ensure the success of the upcoming FOCAC summit, aiming to push for sustained development in China-Africa relations.

President Obiang reciprocated the sentiments, acknowledging the profound friendship and high-level mutual trust between the two nations. “Our countries have achieved fruitful results in bilateral cooperation and maintained close coordination in international affairs,” he said.

Obiang expressed Equatorial Guinea\u2019s eagerness to further enhance multilateral cooperation with China. He reaffirmed his country\u2019s firm adherence to the one-China principle and support for the Chinese government\u2019s efforts in achieving national reunification.

The meeting underscores the strengthening ties between China and Equatorial Guinea, setting a positive tone for the forthcoming FOCAC summit and future collaborative endeavors.
