Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Senegalese counterpart Yacine Fall on Sunday in Beijing, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between China and Senegal.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the solid mutual trust established between the two nations. He expressed China’s willingness to work with Senegal to promote the China-Senegal comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, ensuring it stays up-to-date with the times.
Emphasizing the impact of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Wang noted that the forum has effectively promoted Africa’s development. “FOCAC has become an important symbol of South-South cooperation and has driven international cooperation with Africa,” he stated.
Wang Yi conveyed China’s readiness to closely collaborate with Senegal to make the upcoming FOCAC summit a grand event that strengthens solidarity and friendship between China and Africa. He expressed hope that the summit would ignite a new wave of China-Africa cooperation.
Senegal’s Foreign Minister Yacine Fall described the Senegal-China relationship as exemplary, noting the ongoing respect both countries demonstrate toward each other. She announced that Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will pay a state visit to China during the 2024 FOCAC Summit, marking his first visit to a country outside Africa. Fall expressed Senegal’s eagerness to use the visit to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China.
The meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their cooperation and reflects the broader aspirations of China-Africa relations in fostering mutual development and prosperity.
