In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, met with Toshihiro Nikai, chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union, in Beijing on Wednesday. The meeting underscored the importance of deepening ties between the two neighboring nations.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), emphasized that the four political documents between China and Japan serve as the political and legal foundation of their relationship. He highlighted that peace, friendship, and cooperation are the only correct choices for both countries as they navigate the complexities of regional and global affairs.
“China is willing to work with Japan to continuously enhance mutual trust, deepen cooperation, properly handle differences, and advance bilateral relations along the right track of sound and steady development,” Zhao stated. He pointed out the intertwined economic interests and industrial chains of China and Japan, advocating for strengthened cooperation that contributes to each other’s success.
Zhao also expressed the NPC’s readiness to engage in various forms of exchanges and cooperation with Japan’s House of Representatives and House of Councillors. He extended an invitation to Japanese friends from all walks of life, including parliamentarians, to visit China and gain a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic understanding of the country.
Echoing Zhao’s sentiments, Toshihiro Nikai remarked that friendship among people forms the bedrock of relations between countries. He affirmed that the Japan-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union is committed to contributing to the sound and stable development of Japan-China relations.
The meeting symbolizes a mutual willingness to foster closer ties and address shared challenges. As two of Asia’s largest economies, enhanced cooperation between China and Japan holds significant implications for regional stability and economic prosperity.
