Over 1,200 representatives from around the world gathered on Tuesday in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for the 2024 Overseas Chinese World Conference for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China. The event aimed to strengthen global efforts toward China’s peaceful reunification and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, sent a congratulatory letter to the conference. In his letter, Wang acknowledged the longstanding efforts of compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese, in opposing “independence” and promoting reunification. He highlighted their contributions to fostering cross-Strait exchanges, deepening the international community’s commitment to the one-China principle, and advancing China’s peaceful reunification.

Wang encouraged all compatriots to keep pace with historical trends, safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese nation, and unite in opposing “Taiwan independence” while promoting reunification.

Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event. He emphasized that bringing together compatriots at home and abroad would bolster efforts to oppose “independence” and promote reunification.

The conference, themed “Unswervingly promoting China’s peaceful reunification and striving to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” was hosted by the Hong Kong Association for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China. The event concluded with the adoption of the 2024 Hong Kong Declaration.
