On the landmark occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed a strong commitment to deepening ties between the two nations. In a congratulatory message to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday, President Xi emphasized the readiness of China to work alongside Brazil in building a China-Brazil community with a shared future.
“China is prepared to take this significant milestone as a new starting point,” President Xi stated. “Together with Brazil, we aim to strengthen the alignment of our development strategies, deepen exchanges and cooperation across various fields, and add new dimensions to our relationship.”
Highlighting the stable development of China-Brazil relations over the past half-century, President Xi noted that both countries, as major developing nations and key emerging markets, have maintained a strong partnership despite changes in the international landscape. “We are like-minded good friends and partners that join hands and move forward together,” he said.
President Xi also reflected on President Lula’s successful visit to China last year, where both leaders reached a significant consensus on ushering in a new era for bilateral relations. “While promoting the development and revitalization of our respective nations, China and Brazil have played significant roles in contributing to world peace, stability, and prosperity,” he added.
In response, President Lula acknowledged the strengthening friendship and increasingly diversified cooperation between Brazil and China over the past fifty years. “Our countries maintain cooperation in many fields and at all levels to jointly build a more prosperous, peaceful, and just world,” he said.
President Lula emphasized the importance of Brazil-China ties in building a multipolar order and enhancing global governance. “Bilateral ties play an underpinning role in the stability and predictability of our countries and the world,” he remarked. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the future, stating that both countries “will chart a new course together and create a bright shared future” in the next fifty years of relations.
The anniversary was also marked by an exchange of congratulatory messages between Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, signaling a mutual commitment at all levels to further strengthen the partnership.
