Vietnam’s President To Lam Set for State Visit to China from August 18 to 20

At the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Vietnamese President To Lam will pay a state visit to China from August 18 to 20, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.

The visit marks President To Lam’s first trip abroad since assuming office, highlighting the importance he places on strengthening ties between China and Vietnam. A spokesperson for the ministry noted that President Xi will hold talks with President To Lam during the visit.

In addition to meeting with President Xi, President To Lam is scheduled to meet separately with other senior Chinese officials, including Premier Li Qiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning.

The two nations are actively working to implement the outcomes of President Xi’s historic visit to Vietnam at the end of last year. Efforts to build the China-Vietnam community with a shared future, which carries strategic significance, have made a promising start, according to the spokesperson.

“Through this visit, China looks forward to carrying forward traditional friendship, deepening the building of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future, and working with Vietnam to achieve success in our respective socialist paths towards modernization with distinctive characteristics,” the spokesperson said. “We aim to jointly advance the global socialist cause and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and development.”

The spokesperson emphasized that China is the first country President To Lam will visit since taking office, underscoring the strong ties and mutual importance of the relationship between the two parties and countries.

The upcoming visit is expected to further solidify the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vietnam, fostering cooperation in various fields and enhancing mutual understanding.
