China’s State Councilor Shen Yiqin Congratulates France on Paris Olympic Success

China’s State Councilor Shen Yiqin congratulated France on its successful hosting of the 33rd Olympic Games during her visit to Paris. As the special representative of President Xi Jinping, Shen attended the closing ceremony on Sunday and held meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

Meeting with President Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron prior to the closing ceremony, Shen conveyed heartfelt regards from President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan. She expressed gratitude for France’s support of the Chinese Olympic delegation. In response, President Macron and his wife extended sincere greetings to President Xi and Peng Liyuan, congratulated Chinese athletes on their outstanding performances, and thanked the Chinese government for its support in hosting the Olympic Games.

During her meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach on Saturday, Shen emphasized China’s willingness to deepen high-level cooperation with the IOC. She affirmed China’s readiness to contribute to the development of the Olympic Movement and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Bach congratulated the Chinese Olympic delegation on their achievements at the Paris Games and expressed appreciation for China’s steadfast support of the Olympic cause. He highlighted the IOC’s eagerness to continue close cooperation with China and to send a positive signal in support of multilateralism. The two sides also agreed to oppose the politicization of sports.

Throughout her stay in Paris, Shen visited the Chinese Olympic delegation, conveying warm congratulations and regards from President Xi, the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and the State Council. She encouraged the athletes to carry forward Chinese sportsmanship and Olympism, urging them to strive for new successes for the country. Shen also toured the China House in Paris, further strengthening cultural ties during the Olympic festivities.
