Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to Visit China, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to embark on an official visit to China from August 12 to 21 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, as announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Friday.

During the visit, leaders of the two nations will hold in-depth discussions on China-Fiji relations and other significant issues of mutual interest, according to the ministry.

Fiji holds the distinction of being the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic ties with China. Over the 49 years of their diplomatic relationship, China and Fiji have continued to make new progress, with fruitful exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, benefiting the peoples of both countries.

China has welcomed several leaders from Pacific Island countries this year, and Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit is yet another testament to the close relations between China and the South Pacific region. The ministry noted, “This speaks to the close relations between China and the South Pacific region.”

Through this visit, China hopes to elevate its comprehensive strategic partnership with Fiji, characterized by mutual respect and common development, to a new level. The ministry expressed a desire to work with Fiji to build an even closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island countries.
