In a bid to foster stronger ties between China and the United States, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Xie Feng has called upon young Americans to actively contribute to a vibrant and hopeful China-U.S. relationship.
Ambassador Xie made these remarks on Saturday during a virtual address at the launching ceremony of an exchange and study program between the two nations. The program, known as the Collegiate Immersion Bootcamp for U.S.-based Institutions to Jiangsu, will see 90 students and faculty from eight U.S. higher education institutions participate in a variety of activities across the cities of Suzhou, Wuxi, and Nanjing in eastern China.
The participating institutions include Duke University, Brigham Young University, and Columbia University. The program offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese culture, innovation, and daily life through activities such as learning about traditional arts like Kunqu Opera, visiting science and technology museums, exploring planning exhibition halls and digital centers, and experiencing local canals and night markets.
Ambassador Xie emphasized that the bootcamp is a significant step in realizing the initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping last November in San Francisco, which aims to invite 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study programs over the next five years.
“As a follow-up, China has set up the Young Envoys Scholarship program, initiating many exchange programs and planting seeds of friendship in the hearts of young people in both countries,” Xie said. He expressed confidence that such initiatives will enhance mutual understanding and foster lasting friendships between the two nations.
“I believe that by observing the country with your own eyes and experiencing its landscapes firsthand, you will develop a connection with this country,” Ambassador Xie remarked. “All this will enable you to tell the true story about China.”
He concluded by encouraging the participants to become a “powerful source of energy for China-U.S. friendship in the new era.”
