China and South Africa Collaborate on Ukraine Crisis Resolution

In a bid to ease tensions surrounding the Ukraine crisis, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs, Li Hui, visited South Africa on Friday. Engaging in critical discussions, Li met with Zane Dangor, Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, and Adv Nokukhanya Jele, Legal Adviser to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Li Hui’s visit marks the fourth round of shuttle diplomacy as he travels through Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia, aiming to foster international consensus on resolving the crisis. Emphasizing the urgency felt by the global community, Li highlighted that the six common understandings formulated by China and Brazil for a political settlement have garnered positive feedback from over 110 countries.

“It is imperative to cool down the Ukraine crisis,” Li stated. “China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with South Africa, promoting the building of international consensus based on these understandings.”

The South African officials expressed their appreciation for China’s diplomatic efforts. They underscored the importance of collaboration among nations in the Global South to create conducive conditions for de-escalating tensions and ultimately achieving peace.

“We support the six common understandings and are committed to working with China and Brazil to promote these within multilateral frameworks,” the South African side affirmed.

This engagement between China and South Africa signals a strengthening of ties and a shared commitment to peaceful resolution. As Li Hui continues his diplomatic journey, the world watches in anticipation of a collective move towards peace and stability.
