The Chinese mainland has strongly condemned the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) for its alleged interference in the Taiwan question. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed the issue during a regular press briefing on Wednesday.
“The so-called IPAC is a small group of extreme anti-China elements attempting to provoke on the Taiwan question,” Chen stated. He emphasized that China has repeatedly expressed strong opposition to the organization’s claims and actions.
Chen reiterated that the Taiwan question is an internal affair of China and that no external interference will be tolerated. He noted that United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 fully reflects and solemnly reaffirms the one-China principle.
In response to IPAC’s annual meeting held in Taipei, multiple civilian groups in Taiwan staged protests on Tuesday. Outside the meeting venue, protestors displayed banners opposing the organization. One banner read, “The Taiwan question is China’s internal affair, and non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs is an international norm.”
