China and ASEAN Join Forces to Safeguard South China Sea Peace, Says Wang Yi

China and ASEAN Pledge Unity for South China Sea Stability

In a significant diplomatic development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are jointly working to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Speaking on Saturday during a series of meetings with foreign ministers from Southeast and East Asian countries in Vientiane, Laos, Wang Yi highlighted the collaborative efforts between China and ASEAN nations. “The countries of this region have the full confidence, wisdom, and capabilities to address the South China Sea issue,” he stated.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea are progressing. “China and ASEAN countries are continuing to promote consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, actively carrying out practical maritime cooperation,” he said, underscoring the commitment to ensuring regional peace and stability.

The South China Sea is a strategically significant region, vital for international trade and rich in natural resources. The collaborative approach between China and ASEAN reflects a shared interest in fostering a secure and prosperous environment.

Wang Yi’s remarks come at a time when regional cooperation is paramount. By strengthening ties and mutual understanding, China and ASEAN aim to address challenges collectively, reinforcing the importance of dialogue and cooperation in resolving disputes.
