China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, on Tuesday emphasized the necessity of a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Yemen. Speaking at a Security Council briefing, Fu called on all parties to remain committed to a diplomatic resolution, highlighting that “the settlement of the Yemeni question requires political and diplomatic means.”
Fu urged all involved parties to build consensus and meet each other halfway, advocating for a comprehensive political process that is both Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned. He stressed the importance of resolving tensions and differences through dialogue and negotiation.
“The international community should provide assistance and play a constructive role in this regard,” Fu noted, emphasizing China’s support for efforts that promote peace and stability in Yemen.
Addressing the ongoing tensions in the Red Sea, Fu called on the Houthis to respect international maritime law. “The Chinese side once again urges the Houthis to respect the right of navigation of commercial vessels under international law in the Red Sea, cease attacks, and maintain safe navigation in the Red Sea waters,” he stated.
The envoy’s remarks come amid escalating concerns over maritime security and the humanitarian situation in Yemen. Fu’s appeal underscores China’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and supporting a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
