Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has proposed a comprehensive three-step plan to address the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the urgency of establishing lasting peace and supporting the Palestinian people\u0027s aspirations.
Wang made the announcement on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of a reconciliation dialogue among Palestinian factions. The event culminated in the signing of a declaration by 14 factions aimed at ending internal divisions and strengthening national unity.
“China harbors no self-interest concerning the Palestinian issue,” Wang stated. “We were among the first countries to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization and the State of Palestine, and we have always firmly supported the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights.”
Highlighting the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its widespread implications, Wang outlined China\u0027s three-step approach:
First, China calls for an immediate, comprehensive, and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, coupled with guaranteed access for humanitarian assistance and relief efforts. “The international community should further unite on the issue of ceasefire,” Wang urged.
Second, the principle of “the Palestinians governing Palestine” should be upheld to promote post-war governance in Gaza. Wang emphasized the importance of Gaza as an inseparable part of Palestine and advocated for the formation of an interim government with national consensus. This government would effectively manage both Gaza and the West Bank, facilitating reconstruction and governance.
Third, China supports Palestine in becoming a full member of the United Nations and commencing the implementation of the two-state solution. Wang called for backing a more significant, authoritative, and effective international peace conference, complete with a defined timetable and roadmap.
Wang concluded by underscoring the priorities: “A ceasefire and humanitarian relief are top priorities; ‘the Palestinians governing Palestine’ is the basic principle of post-war reconstruction in Gaza, and the two-state solution is the fundamental way out for the future. The international community should support the parties concerned in implementing the three-step approach with a serious attitude.”
