China Calls on NATO to Abandon Cold War Mentality and Stop Baseless Accusations

Beijing, China — China has urged NATO to cease its baseless accusations and abandon a Cold War mentality, emphasizing that such actions destabilize the Asia-Pacific region. During a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed claims made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“China firmly opposes NATO using China as a pretext to expand eastward into the Asia-Pacific and destabilize the region,” Lin stated. The spokesperson emphasized that NATO, the world’s largest military alliance and a remnant of the Cold War, should not provoke confrontations or engage in practices that threaten global security.

Lin remarked that NATO’s so-called security comes at the expense of others, creating significant risks globally and regionally. He stressed that China’s stance in international affairs is objective and fair, noting its constructive role in addressing issues such as the Ukraine crisis, which has been recognized by the international community.

“China is a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of international order,” Lin said. He called on NATO to correct its misguided perception of China, abandon zero-sum game approaches, and stop forming exclusive “small circles” under the guise of “common defense.”

The spokesperson urged NATO to take practical steps to promote world peace, stability, and development, rather than fostering “security anxiety” and fabricating imaginary enemies. “We hope NATO can contribute positively to global security,” Lin concluded.
