China and Thailand Pledge Deeper Ties Ahead of 50th Anniversary

Beijing, China — In a significant move to bolster regional cooperation, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on Tuesday. The meeting, held in Beijing, marks a pivotal step as both countries approach the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year.

Vice President Han emphasized the enduring friendship between China and Thailand, describing them as “good neighbors, good friends, good relatives, and good partners.” He reaffirmed China’s commitment to developing relations with Thailand from a strategic and long-term perspective. “China is ready to work with Thailand to follow the important consensus reached by our leaders,” Han stated. “We aim to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges.”

Highlighting the importance of regional collaboration, Han expressed China’s willingness to join hands with Thailand to advance high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and to build a China-Thailand community with a shared future.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa echoed these sentiments, noting that Thailand-China relations have entered a new era. “Thailand and China are good partners who trust each other,” Maris said. “We are willing to take the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields and continuously advance our bilateral relations.”

The discussions signal a mutual desire to enhance diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations. Observers note that this strengthened partnership could have significant implications for the broader Asian region, promoting stability and development amid global uncertainties.
