International scholars and experts have lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speeches at the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the subsequent “SCO Plus” meeting, emphasizing their significance for regional cooperation and global governance.
During the SCO summit, President Xi reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to good neighborliness and friendship, advocating for the building of a new type of international relations. He emphasized that the SCO embodies the spirit of cooperation and mutual development among its member states.
At the “SCO Plus” meeting, President Xi put forward five proposals aimed at constructing a more promising future for the SCO and steering global governance towards greater fairness and reasonableness. These proposals underscored the importance of solidarity, innovation, openness, inclusiveness, and justice in international affairs.
Farhat Asif, president of the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies in Pakistan, highlighted the emphasis on dialogue and cooperation mechanisms within the SCO. “As President Xi said, the SCO family demonstrates the will for cooperation, dialogue, and development,” she noted, stressing the SCO’s role in fostering regional harmony.
Echoing similar sentiments, Mohammad Reza Manafi, editor-in-chief for the Asia-Pacific news desk of Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, stated that the SCO can play a vital role in promoting development among all countries, particularly its member states, and in responding to regional and global challenges.
A professor of communication and journalism at Marmara University in Türkiye remarked, “President Xi’s speech is absolutely correct,” adding that the SCO holds great significance for the future of global security, cooperation, peace, and economic development.
The positive reactions from international experts underscore the growing influence of the SCO in shaping regional dynamics and contributing to global governance reform. As the organization continues to expand and deepen its collaborative efforts, its impact on international relations is poised to strengthen further.
