At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held on Thursday in Kazakhstan, member nations adopted the Astana Declaration, reaffirming their collective commitment to fostering a new type of international relations and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Astana Declaration highlights the SCO members’ dedication to promoting peace, cooperation, and mutual understanding in the face of global challenges. Emphasizing the importance of international security and stability, the declaration warns against the unilateral and unrestricted strengthening of global anti-missile systems, stating that such actions jeopardize international security.
In addressing ongoing conflicts, the SCO called for member states to oppose confrontational mindsets when resolving international and regional issues. The organization stressed the necessity of diplomatic and peaceful solutions to conflicts, urging all parties to engage in constructive dialogue.
The SCO members strongly condemned actions leading to massive civilian casualties and humanitarian disasters in Gaza. The declaration emphasized that seeking security at the expense of others is unacceptable and called for immediate measures to alleviate the humanitarian situation.
In a move to promote cultural exchange and tourism within the region, the declaration announced that Qingdao City in east China’s Shandong Province will serve as the SCO tourist and cultural capital for 2024 and 2025. This initiative aims to strengthen people-to-people connections and enhance mutual understanding among SCO member nations.
The Astana Declaration represents a unified stance by the SCO members on pressing global issues and underscores their commitment to collaboration and peaceful coexistence.
