SCO Leaders Call for Multipolar World to Address Global Security Challenges

The leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations met on Thursday, calling for the construction of a multipolar world to effectively address pressing global security threats and challenges.

In a joint statement, the leaders emphasized that current security risks are global in nature and require collective efforts. “These challenges can only be resolved through the building of a multipolar world, the improvement of global economic governance, and coordinated efforts to tackle both conventional and non-conventional security threats,” the statement read.

Reaffirming their commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and internationally recognized norms of law, the SCO leaders expressed their dedication to maintaining world peace and security, as well as fostering good-neighborly and friendly relations among nations.

The statement highlighted the equality of all SCO member states within the organization. “All member states, regardless of their political, economic, and social systems, population size, geographical location, and level of economic development, enjoy equal rights in making and taking decisions,” it noted.

The leaders pledged to peacefully resolve any differences that may arise between member states, emphasizing that bilateral disputes would not be addressed within the SCO framework. They also reaffirmed their adherence to principles of non-alignment, inclusiveness, and refraining from targeting other countries or regions.

Moving forward, member states agreed to strengthen institutional consultations on international and regional issues, coordinate actions, and provide mutual support and close cooperation on major affairs. “Our collective approach aims to enhance global stability and security,” the statement concluded.

The SCO, founded in 2001, is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance that includes countries such as China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and several Central Asian nations.
